Frequently asked questions
Kydex is a thermoplastic material and therefore requires little care. However, I recommend washing out the Kydex regularly and applying a small amount of food-safe oil (e.g. Ballistol). This prevents particles from getting into the Kydex sheath and scratching the blade.
No - the knife will not make any noise in the Kydex sheath. During production, the tolerance between the blade and Kydex is defined in such a way that no annoying rattling can occur.
This case is very unlikely. However, if it should happen, you can send in the Kydex at any time and I will repair it free of charge. Please send an email to: info@swisskydexsheaths.com
As a thermoplastic material, Kydex is much more robust than other materials such as nylon or leather. Some major advantages over other materials are:
- Dimensional stability
- Water resistance
- Maintenance-free
- Durability
- Versatility in design, shape and fastening options
- Low weight
I craft the Kydex sheaths by hand in my workshop with great passion. I pay attention to many aspects that a mass-produced Kydex sheath does not have. These include the low tolerance, the finely polished edges, the protection of the knife through abrasion and much more.
When making the Kydex sheath, I set the closure pressure so that the knife fits securely. I take into account both my personal quality standards and the handle material of the knife. With certain models, such as the Fällkniven F1/S1/A1 with a Thermorun handle, special care is required as this handle reacts sensitively to friction. Here it is important to choose a lock pressure that is strong enough to keep the knife tight, but not so high that the handle wears out over time. In my Kydex sheaths, the knife can easily be carried upside down without it falling out. In fact, I have never seen a knife fall out of a quality Kydex sheath - so the common perception that this happens frequently is more of a myth.
